Effectiveness of Video and Leaflet to Improve Knowledge and Attitudes of Pregnant Women Regarding Multiple Micronutrient Supplement (MMS) Consumption
Abstract
Multiple Micronutrient Supplements (MMS) are multimicronutrient preparations containing 15 essential vitamins and minerals that play a critical role in preventing anemia and supporting fetal growth and development during pregnancy. Inadequate knowledge and negative attitudes among pregnant women toward MMS consumption may compromise adherence to supplementation regimens. This study aimed to analyze and compare the effectiveness of video and leaflet educational media in improving pregnant women’s knowledge and attitudes regarding MMS consumption. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a nonequivalent control group pretest–posttest approach. The study population consisted of 63 pregnant women in the working area of Sukomoro Primary Health Center (Puskesmas Sukomoro), Magetan Regency, East Java, with a sample of 60 respondents selected using simple random sampling, divided equally into a video group (n=30) and a leaflet group (n=30). Data were collected using validated knowledge and attitude questionnaires and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann–Whitney U Test. Results showed that knowledge increased by 85.71% in the video group and 84.57% in the leaflet group, while attitudes improved by 67.55% in the video group and 103.71% in the leaflet group. Statistical analysis demonstrated significant improvements in both groups (p < 0.001). However, there was no significant difference in effectiveness between video and leaflet media in improving either knowledge (p = 0.059) or attitudes (p = 0.496) among pregnant women. Both video and leaflet educational interventions were effective in improving pregnant women’s knowledge and attitudes regarding MMS consumption, with no statistically significant difference between the two media types
